A total of 300 volunteers came together on September 19, 2026, for the International Coastal Cleanup 2026 held at Aquaman Beach Resort, Barangay Bancao-bancao, Puerto Princesa City, demonstrating the community’s shared commitment to protecting the coastal environment.
Organized through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) CENRO Puerto Princesa, PENRO Palawan, and EMB-PEMU, in partnership with local stakeholders and the Barangay Bancao-bancao community, the activity covered approximately 1 kilometer of coastline.
One coastline, one community, one shared responsibility for a cleaner and healthier sea.
The volunteers collected a total of 130 sacks of waste, weighing approximately 1,950 kilograms. Among the most commonly collected wastes were empty plastic and glass bottles, plastic sachets, and other disposable materials.
Much of the waste found along the shoreline was carried and washed ashore by the waves, while some were left by people who visit, stroll, or stay along the coastal area. The presence of these wastes highlights the need for responsible waste disposal and greater awareness among coastal visitors and residents.
The active participation of Barangay Bancao-bancao and its community was vital to the success of the cleanup. More than just removing waste, the activity strengthened community involvement and reminded everyone of their shared responsibility to protect the coastline and marine environment.
The International Coastal Cleanup provides an opportunity for communities to take collective action against coastal pollution. Through sustained participation, proper waste management, and responsible behavior, communities can help keep their shores clean and safeguard marine resources for future generations.
