Celebrating the Environment Through Sports: PENRO Palawan Kicks Off Philippine Environmental Month 2026 Celebration
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR PENRO) Palawan formally kick off its Environmental Month Celebration, World Oceans Day 2026 Commemoration, and Sportsfest 2026 through a day filled with environmental awareness activities, fellowship, and friendly sports competitions among participating agencies.

The celebration began with a Flag Ceremony and the regular Monday Forum, followed by a special program in observance of World Oceans Day 2026, which highlighted the importance of marine conservation and environmental responsibility.
The Sportsfest Kick-Off Ceremony gathered participants from PENRO Palawan, PWRCC, CENRO Puerto Princesa City, and EMB-PEMU.
In a welcome message, PENRO Felizado B. Cayatoc emphasized the value of teamwork, camaraderie, and employee wellness in supporting the DENR’s environmental mission.
Participants were introduced by office and joined in the Environmental Commitment Pledge, reaffirming their dedication to environmental protection and sustainable resource management.
The sporting events officially opened with volleyball matches between PWRCC/EMB-PEMU and CENRO Puerto Princesa City in both the men's and women's divisions. The afternoon featured Palarong Pinoy, where employees enjoyed traditional Filipino games that promoted teamwork and camaraderie.
The day concluded with the opening basketball game between PENRO Palawan and PWRCC/EMB-PEMU, drawing enthusiastic support from fellow employees.
Day 2 Highlights: Coastal Clean-Up and Sports Competitions
The second day of the Environmental Month Celebration and Coral Triangle Day Commemoration highlighted the agency's commitment to environmental protection and employee camaraderie.
Personnel from PENRO Palawan, CENRO Puerto Princesa City, PWRCC, and EMB-PEMU participated in a Coastal Clean-Up Activity at Barangay Bancao-Bancao, collecting waste along the shoreline and promoting environmental awareness and stewardship.
Following the clean-up, participants continued the Sportsfest 2026 competitions. Volleyball and basketball games showcased teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy competition among the participating offices.
The day's activities strengthened unity among DENR personnel while reinforcing the importance of environmental responsibility and wellness in the workplace.
Day 3 Highlights: DENR Marks 39th Anniversary with Tree Planting, Recognition Program, and Fellowship Night
The third day of the Environmental Month Celebration and the 39th Anniversary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) was highlighted by activities that reflected the agency's commitment to environmental stewardship, employee recognition, and organizational unity.
The day began with a Tree Planting Activity conducted at the new DENR building site, where personnel from PENRO Palawan, CENRO Puerto Princesa City, PWRCC, EMB, and other participating offices gathered to plant tree seedlings as a symbol of DENR's enduring commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. The activity reinforced the agency's mission of protecting and enhancing the country's natural resources while contributing to the greening of government facilities and surrounding communities.
In the afternoon, personnel gathered for the 39th DENR Anniversary Program, featuring messages from DENR officials, recognition of employees through the awarding of certificates, and an inspirational message from PENRO Felizado B. Cayatoc.
The celebration continued with the much-anticipated Eco King and Queen Competition, where participants showcased creativity, confidence, and environmental advocacy through an introductory ramp presentation and a question-and-answer segment. The activity promoted environmental awareness while providing a platform for employees to demonstrate their talents and support the objectives of the Environmental Month celebration.
Following dinner, the evening program featured entertainment numbers and the awarding of winners from the various Sportsfest and Environmental Month competitions. The recognition of champions and outstanding participants highlighted the spirit of healthy competition, teamwork, and camaraderie that characterized the week-long celebration.
