The DENR-PENRO Palawan through IEC unit members, Mary Ann L. Garcia and Marie Chris Palma conducted an IEC lecture about SDG 13: Climate Change and SDG 15: Life on Land at Gregorio Oquendo Memorial School on October 17, 2025.

A total of 49 girls scouts students from Grade 4 to Grade 6 actively participated in the said activity. Marie Chris Palma, IEC Member, first briefly introduced the profile of DENR-PENRO Palawan to the students, followed by a discussion of the topic about the Sustainable Development Goals 13: Climate Change. She highlighted in the discussion the effects of climate change in the environment and to us, humans. She also discussed the possible ways to lessen the effect of climate change. The Sustainable Development Goals 15: Life on Land was tackled by Mary Ann Garcia, wherein she points out the threats we face in terrestrial ecosystems.

To maintain the students' engagement, a question-and-answer segment was incorporated between the discussion of each topic. Students who answered and actively participated were given tokens of appreciation, such as customized T-shirts, tumblers, and notebooks.

This IEC activity helps young students understand the environment better, so they can be more aware and take care of the world around them.

"Young people should be at the forefront of global change and innovation. Empowered, they can be key agents for development and peace.”
