In celebration of the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) 2025, a total of 680 kilograms of marine debris was collected during the clean-up activity on September 20, 2025 at Barangay Tagburos, Puerto Princesa City led by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Palawan, in partnership with CENRO Puerto Princesa City and various stakeholders.
The event gathered a total of 289 volunteers composed of 104 males, 182 females, and 3 individuals who preferred not to disclose their gender. These volunteers, representing a wide array of government agencies, academic institutions, community organizations, and local stakeholders, joined hands in a united effort to restore and preserve the coastal environment.
All volunteers were able to clean an estimated 1-kilometer stretch of coastline, collecting 95 sacks of debris, which weighed approximately 680 kilograms. The collected waste primarily consisted of plastic bottles, food wrappers, fishing gear, styrofoam, and other non-biodegradable materials commonly found in marine litter.
The active participation of each and everyone highlights the growing community awareness and commitment to environmental stewardship in Palawan. Special recognition is given to the local government of Barangay Tagburos, which played a crucial role in mobilizing grassroots support through its barangay officials, sangguniang kabataan, and other community organizations.
