The coastal clean-up and scubasurero led to the collection of 237.5 kilograms of non-biodegradable waste, including plastics, glass, cans, and other debris harmful to the marine environment. The effort contributes to ongoing preservation initiatives for Snake Island, a vital site for marine biodiversity and scientific research.
In addition to the clean-up, a brief but insightful lecture was delivered by Mr. Rene Von Ubani, who emphasized the significance of celebrating the Month of the Ocean. To cap off the day’s activities, a series of team-building exercises were conducted to foster camaraderie and strengthen teamwork among PENRO personnel. These activities promoted collaboration, unity, and a shared sense of purpose in pursuing environmental goals.
This year’s celebration carries the theme "Unlock Ocean-Based Solutions to Climate Change.” Karagatan ang Solusyon calls on individuals, organizations, and governments to recognize the ocean not just as a victim of climate change, but as a vital part of the solution—urging stronger protection, innovation, and sustainable use of ocean resources.
The activity was spearheaded by PENRO PENR Officer Felizardo B. Cayatoc, asissted and facilitated by the Conservation and Development Section (CDS) and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Unit, with active participation from PENRO personnel.
