The DENR PENRO Palawan IEC Unit spearheaded by Forester II Arjay T. Gregas and CENRO PPC Senior Ecosystems Management Specialist Ma. Vivian Soriano and company participated in the said activity. The celebration was initiated by PASu Elizabeth A. Maclang of the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP), a recognized Ramsar site, a World Heritage Site, and one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. This remarkable setting provided a fitting backdrop for the educational event which was attended by more than 100 students and faculty from Buenavista, Cabayugan, Sabang, and New Panggangan Elementary School.

PASu Maclang began the program with a cordial welcome message that set the tone for the day's activities. The students then watched an audiovisual presentation of "Si Peewee ang Masayahing Pawikan," an inspirational and educational video about the importance of wetlands and their role in conservation. This was followed by a series of insightful talks from expert speakers.

Mr. Sanny A. Nedroda, CMEMP Extension Officer of DENR-PENRO, discussed the vital relationship between wetlands and biodiversity conservation, highlighting how these ecosystems are crucial to the balance of nature. Ms. Ma. Vivian O. Soriano from DENR-CENRO shared her knowledge on the essential role of wetlands in combating climate change. Atty. Jehremiah Asis from PPWRLC Inc. wrapped up the speakers’ sessions with a talk on Nature's Shield Against Disasters, focusing on how wetlands serve as natural buffers against floods and other environmental disasters.

On February 5, 2025, Mr. Sanny Nedroda provided a lecture to 23 ACLC students during their orientation session, as they prepared to start their internship at the DENR-PENRO office. The presentation focused on wetlands and biodiversity conservation. The short activity culminated with an engaging question-and-answer in which students show off their newly acquired knowledge. The winners received keychains, ballpens, and t-shirts as prizes.

World Wetlands Day 2025 was a productive and significant event which encouraged students and the community to recognize the value of wetlands in environmental protection and climate change mitigation. This event correlates with worldwide efforts to maintain wetlands for the welfare of all living beings.
