DENR PENRO Participates in Mangrove Tree Planting Activity in Celebration of Barangay Sta. Monica's 65th Founding Anniversary and World Wetlands Day
On January 29, 2025, the DENR-Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) participated in a significant mangrove tree planting held at Purok Magkaisa, Barangay Sta. Monica. The event celebrated the 65th founding anniversary of the Barangay and in observance of World Wetlands Day.

The tree planting was part of the barangay's efforts to promote environmental conservation and raise awareness about the importance of mangroves, which not only serve as a natural barrier against deterioration and flooding, but also provide critical habitat for a wide variety of wildlife, including fish, birds, and other marine species.
The DENR-PENRO's participation highlighted theri unwavering commitment to environmental protection and their role in working with local communities to promote conservation initiatives.
The timing of the event coincided with the celebration of World Wetlands Day, which is observed anually on February 2 to raise awareness about the vital role wetlands play in preserving biodiversity and mitigating climate change. Although the official World Wetlands Day falls a few days later, DENR PENRO took the opportunity to celebrate early, highlighting the importance of protecting wetlands, including mangrove forests, as part of the broader effort to safeguard our natural resources.
The tree planting activity not only helped to ensure environmental sustainability, but it also fostered a sense of community and common goal.
