In line with the celebration of the Environment Month and the 37th Anniversary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the DENR-PENRO Palawan with the active participation of the CENROs (Coron, Taytay, Roxas, Puerto Princesa, Quezon, and Brooke’s Point), PWRCC, and EMB-PEMU were buzzing with anticipation as the much awaited Sportsfest for this year’s celebration has officially kicked off. 

The program commenced with a colorful parade from the DENR-PENRO compound to the South National Highway with the Sta. Monica Drum and Lyre members and the participants wearing their customized jerseys and banners in which designs were aligned in their flagship species. The program officially started with CENRO Alexander Mancio’s welcoming remarks to all the delegates, followed by an excellent  drum and lyre exhibition of the Sta. Monica Drum and Lyre members, each team's performances of their yells, messages from the CENR Officers of each CENRO’s, a message from PENRO Felizardo Cayatoc, Lighting of Torch by Mr. Neil James Versoza, Oath of Sportsmanship by Ms Maria Vianca Garraez, and Banner Raising Competition. 

The PENRO compound echoed with cheers and applause as each team started to perform their Live Zumba Dance Performances followed by the highlight of the opening program - the search for Best Environmental Costume (Muse and Escort) showcasing the creativity of each team in utilizing environmentally friendly materials. 

The sportsfest was a week-long celebration from June 3-8 that featured various exciting sports games including Basketball, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Darts, Quiz Bee and Palarong Pinoy Games such as Kadang-kadang, Sack Race and Tug of War. This activity isn’t just about winning or losing or showing the athletic abilities you have; it’s about fostering unity and collaboration with colleagues at work.
