The MOA Signing Ceremony that took place at Punta Baja, Rizal, Palawan was graced by a total of 70 attendees including 8 People’s Organizations for Congressional projects, each with 10 subcontractors, and 2 People’s Organizations for regular NGP projects, also with 10 subcontractors each and also 7 Congressional People’s Organization chairpersons were present. The said ceremony was also graced by the presence of  RED Felix S. Mirasol, Congressman Jose Ch. Alvarez, Vice Mayor Maria Gracia M. Zapanta, PENRO Felizardo B. Cayatoc, and CENRO Renato S. Gonzaga and staff.

The primary purpose of the MOA signing was to address the rehabilitation and reforestation of unproductive, denuded, and degraded forestlands, aiming to develop, maintain, and protect established plantations to uplift socio-economic standards in local communities. The envisioned project encompasses the planting of 1,300 hectares with “abuyog” or locally known as jackfruit and other fruit trees, with potential processing and export opportunities in the future as per continuous efforts and compliance of 85% survival/passing rate of People’s Organizations.

The MOA Signing that was held at CENRO Brooke’s Point Conference Hall last March 15, 2024 was conducted by the DENR-PENRO Palawan through ENGP Unit together with PENRO IEC Unit and CENRO Brooke’s Point involving People’s Organization Sinubling Arta’t Kagurang-gurangan (SAK) Inc. with 9 subcontractors with an allotted area of 33.5 hectares. Additionally, Samariñana Communal Irrigators Association Inc. joined with 10 subcontractors, covering a total area of 66.5 hectares.

These MOA signings underscore a collective commitment to environmental sustainability and community development through reforestation initiatives. The engagement of various stakeholders and subcontractors signifies the potential for significant impact in the targeted areas.

This kind of activity and creating a strong bond with the different organizations and stakeholders to commit in  rehabilitations of degraded forest lands and in protecting the environment for its sustainability are one of few of the many ways we can do for the environment.
